Isometric conditionally approved by CORSIA

First carbon removal registry to receive conditional approval to issue CORSIA-eligible credits

Isometric has been conditionally approved by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) as an issuer of CORSIA Eligible Emissions Units. The Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) is an aviation industry program that aims to reduce emissions and “offset the amount of carbon dioxide emissions that cannot be reduced…with emissions units from the carbon market”.

Isometric is the first registry specifically focussed on carbon removals to be approved by CORSIA. The approval was a result of a robust evaluation process conducted by ICAO where all aspects of Isometric’s governance, products and operations were thoroughly assessed against CORSIA’s eligibility criteria.

Isometric was the only registry from the 2024 assessment cycle to receive approval from CORSIA within the same year as its initial application. This approval follows Isometric’s endorsement by ICROA earlier in 2024. Isometric has been able to receive these accreditations in a relatively short time-frame due to its commitment to scientific rigor and only issuing carbon removal credits of the highest quality. This approval is conditional because Isometric has been asked to make specific changes to certain policies and procedures, as set out in the TAB Assessments and Recommendations on Applications and Procedural Updates published on December 9, 2024. Isometric will implement all these changes ahead of the next assessment cycle and has been advised that this would result in full approval during 2025.

This news is another important signal to buyers, suppliers and the carbon removal ecosystem that Isometric is the leading registry for high quality carbon credits.
