Introducing Isometric’s digital MRV platform

Automating project data for faster verification

Chris Podgorney
Product Manager

Isometric is releasing a new digital monitoring, reporting and verification (dMRV) platform to speed up the verification and issuance of carbon removal credits—a key step in helping carbon removal scale to the level the planet needs.

Accurate life cycle analysis (LCA) and detailed evidence of every step of a project’s operations are critical to enable thorough verification and ensure high quality carbon credits.

Until now, verifying carbon removal this way was a cumbersome process, involving a plethora of spreadsheets and manual data entry. This has often made verification slow and laborious, and has led to mistakes and inconsistencies.

Isometric’s new dMRV platform streamlines verification and accelerates the path to certifying durable carbon removal activity, offering buyers, suppliers and verifiers complete traceability in the verification process.

Isometric’s digital MRV platform

Isometric’s dMRV platform is now available for use by all suppliers getting verified through Isometric. The platform acts as the single source of truth for all operations during verification, helping suppliers to:

  • Track and report on carbon accounting: Quickly aggregate data and build your life cycle analysis, accelerating compliance with Isometric’s LCA requirements. Isometric’s verification bodies are onboarded to use the platform’s standardized format, minimizing discrepancies and turnaround times and enabling regular verification.
  • Provide full evidence: Gather and submit all key information, from high-frequency sensor readings, to evidence documentation, to ongoing monitoring data. Isometric’s dMRV platform is tailored to the requirements of our protocols, supporting a rigorous, consistent approach across all pathways.
  • Catch issues, faster: Easily identify and resolve errors via automated verification checks, reducing friction during verification and raising the bar on data quality.

This robust approach powers the end-to-end transparency of Isometric credits, allowing buyers to have confidence and trust in the provenance and calculations underpinning every tonne verified by Isometric. It also dramatically speeds up verification, moving credit issuance from an annual exercise to a monthly one.

How it works

Project developers can choose from multiple ways of using Isometric’s dMRV platform, offering flexibility to accommodate different data setups. Projects may either choose to track data directly in the platform as a system of record, or choose to integrate, combining data from source systems for verification:

  • System of record: Store operational data directly, removing the need to integrate multiple systems and tracking all relevant data for protocol adherence from the outset.
  • Integrate: Connect to Isometric’s dMRV system, combining data via our MRV API, bulk uploads or inputting data directly.

With either approach, Isometric’s appointed verification and validation body (VVB) accesses all submitted carbon accounting and monitoring data in a consistent format by logging onto the platform directly. Automated checks highlight data quality issues, allowing the verifier to focus their attention and professional judgment on the key risks. Ultimately, this enables both greater speed and rigor in verification.
